Creating a Green Wedding
Posted by Maria Canora – Here’s our third post with wedding ideas that we thought our new brides and grooms may enjoy. Feel free to share this with your friend who are getting married. Maybe it will lend some inspriration to their planning
It’s more than a trend, it’s a way of life for many couples and they want to include their personal beliefs on this special day. The reality that caterers and restaurants consume an incredible amount of energy and create an amazing amount of waste has forced The Main Event to investigate ways to make their business environmentally responsible. Their commitment to sustainability runs through all facets of the business from water management to composting to wind power and the use of bottled water. Here are a few tips to your green wedding:
- Look for caterers who purchase locally, within 100 miles from the venue.
- Drink Local. Purchase local Virginia wines and spirits. Catoctin Creek, for example. Of course if you use a vineyard, you’ve got the local wine covered.
- Choose a florist who will use native Virginia flowers. Check out Green Springs Gardens in Fairfax for ideas and workshops.
And one more fun Idea: Give a bag of compost for a wedding favor.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this last post. Please email me directly with your comments or questions and share with your friends. The next post will include décor with corks. Come back next week.
