Written by Sebastin Marquet –– 2013 has turned out to be a really good year for Doukénie Winery as we close out the year with several industry awards. The Official Virginia Wine Lover ™ and 2013 Grand Harvest Awards and Wine Enthusiast Magazine honored us this week.Yes, three awards one week.

The Official Virginia Wine Lover ™ recognized the winery with a “Favorite Five” award for winery tasting rooms. The online publication reaches more than 50,000 readers, including wine festival attendees, visitors to wineries and tasting room managers and a targeted list of Virginia wine enthusiasts. The winery was chosen for friendliness of tasting room staff, attractiveness of location, and staff knowledge of wine, proximity of winery and price of tasting.

The second recognition was from the 2013 Grand Harvest Awards by Vineyard & Winery Management. This year’s competition yielded nearly 1,050 entries and Doukénie Winery was awarded a Bronze medal for the 2011 Chardonnay, Bronze for 2012 Pinot Grigio and Silver for 2011 Sauvignon Blanc.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine rated the 2010 Petit Verdot and the 2010 Vintner’s Reserve with 86 points as well.

“We are extremely pleased to be recognized with these recent awards,” said General Manager and Winemaker Sebastien Marquet. “We are especially pleased that the “Favorite Five” from The Official Virginia Wine Lover ™ comes from the many customers that visit us throughout the year and enjoy the experience we try so hard to create and the 2013 Grand Harvest recognizes the fine product that we work to produce each year. The icing on the cake is the rating from Wine Enthusiast Magazine!”

“The recognition we have received recently is very exciting and reflects the wonderful team we have working at Doukénie Winery,” said Doukénie Winery Owner George Bazaco.

Thank you to all our staff and Heritage Club members, along with you, our visitors, for these fine awards. We will continue to work hard, produce award-winning wine and service our customers with a smile.
